PhotoTour DC Mentoring Club
The PhotoTour DC Mentoring Club is a resource for beginners to enthusiast level photographers who are still struggling with taking great pictures and want some consistent help in getting there.
Is this you?
Photography mentoring isn’t for everyone. You will get the most from the Mentoring Club if you find yourself in any of these scenarios.
- Photography is a passion of yours, and you are ready to work on it seriously to develop your skills.
- As a recent alum of our PhotoTour DC excursions, you have a better understanding of how your camera works, but you need more help applying what you learned.
- You take okay pictures, but you would like it to be more consistent. It still feels rather random.
- You are a new DSLR owner, and you are looking for interesting experiences to help you learn your camera and explore your interest.
- The difference between what you see in your head and what shows up on your camera when you take a photograph really frustrates you.
How do you get better?
Knowing you need help is a great starting point, but it isn’t enough. How do you get better, and where can you go for support?
The recipe for improving your photography is fairly simple: learn the principles, take more pictures, and get constructive feedback on your photographs.
This is the philosophy and format that guide the mentoring club experience. We will learn principles through formal presentations. Group assignments will encourage you to take your camera out and shoot more. Constructive feedback will meet you where you are on your learning path and equip you to go further.
In a supportive, learning environment like our Mentoring Club, you will see the quality of your work improve. You will learn to take pictures with confidence with more predictable results.
How does it work?
- This is a continuing monthly program
- Two webinar calls each month
- First webinar presents the lesson and includes an open Q&A session with your instructor. You will receive an assignment to reinforce your learning.
- Second webinar is a feedback call. You will submit your photos from the assignment for feedback from the instructor. This is your opportunity to ask all the questions that came up while you were shooting your assignment.
- Expert interviews with professional photographers each month for you to download and learn at your leisure.
- We create a learning community where you can collaborate, learn, and be inspired.

A group assignment
Sometimes we just need some motivation to get in gear. A group assignment that reinforces the lesson can provide the spark to your creativity. Seeing how other class members interpret the assignment also can provide a creative boost.
Our feedback webinar allows you share some of the successes and challenges you encountered while doing the assignment. You always share in a supportive environment where you will get constructive feedback and practical suggestions for improvement.
Three membership levels provide different levels of mentoring support and membership is automatically billed each month. You can always change levels once you are in the club.
