FAQs
Q. What is PhotoTour DC?
A. PhotoTour DC is the Washington DC region’s photography workshop that includes a sightseeing experience. Aspiring and amateur photographers learn to take great pictures while visiting the most picturesque sights in the DC area.
Q. What skill level photographer should attend the excursions?
A. Beginner photographers through amateur enthusiasts will find the tours informative and useful. The photo tours boil the many principles of photography down to 10 easy steps. This will give beginning photographers the tools to take great pictures and provide enthusiasts a helpful refresher. No matter your skill level, the narrated photo tour will provide a new appreciation for the DC area’s favorite destinations.
Q. Do I need a special kind of camera?
A. For our photography class, any camera will do. Having a fancy camera won’t make you a better photographer any more than having a fancy hammer will make you a better carpenter. The skill is in the person using the tool. Whether you have a point and shoot or the latest pro-sumer DSLR, you’ll learn to shoot with confidence.
Q. What locations do you visit?
A. PhotoTour DC visits the top destinations in the Nation’s capital. Our Signature Excursions explore the Washington, DC, icons on the National Mall, the Annapolis Harbor at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, and the Adams Morgan neighborhood in Northwest Washington, DC. Our Specialty Excursions capture cultural and historical sights, along with the rich colors of the seasons.
Q. When are your photo tours?
A. You can find dates on times on our Calendar page or you can search by different types of photo tours on our Excursions page.
Q. Do I have to be on vacation to attend a PhotoTour DC?
A. Absolutely not. The shooting locations are favorites of the many tourists who vacation in Washington DC every day, but lifelong residents will find there is plenty to learn about photography and the city we call home.
Q. What is the agenda of a typical excursion?
A. Each Excursion begins with a brief overview of the 10 Steps to Great Pictures. We outline the tour locations and what we will learn, as well as the history and background of each stop. The tours are interactive photography lessons, with each participant receiving an abundance of personal instruction at each destination.
Q. Can I bring a family member or friend?
A. Family and friends are always welcome to share your PhotoTour experience. You won’t have to abandon those who don’t share your interest in photography. The tour guide experience provides something for everyone. You will find our Friend and Family rate is inexpensive compared to other photography and walking tours around the city.
Q. How much do the excursions cost?
A. Our Excursions are just $99. Compared to the typical photo tour, which can range as high as $159 and a narrated walking tour, which averages $59, the combined PhotoTour experience is a bargain.
Q. What will I need to bring with me on the photography trip?
A. A great attitude and an eagerness to learn are essential to maximizing your experience. You will want to pack a digital or film camera. We will spend most of our time walking, so it is best to wear comfortable shoes. To get the best pictures you might need to get low, which sometimes requires you to kneel or even lie on the ground. Wearing comfortable but durable clothes is also advised.
Q. What happens if it rains?
A. If we are expecting inclement weather, we will offer everyone the opportunity to reschedule. We communicate updates to registered attendees on the morning of the event.
Q. What is your refund policy?
A. We will refund purchased tickets if your request is at least seven calendar days before the Excursion. No refunds are provided for requests without seven days’ notice.
Q. Can I reschedule if something in my schedule changes?
A. We are happy to reschedule attendees with at least 48 hours notice.
Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. We accept any form of credit or debit card. We also accept PayPal payments. We do not accept checks or cash.
